This sculpture is the second piece in the series dedicated to animals on the brink of
extinction due to human activities.
The contrast between the pure white enveloping the lion and the polished gold details—the tail tuft
and claws—highlights the duality between the innocence of this magnificent
animal and its invaluable worth to the Earth's ecosystem.
The majestic lion is playfully crouched on a golden carpet. It holds two puzzle pieces in
its jaws, oblivious to the profound meaning of the golden puzzle
it rests upon. The puzzle, made of gleaming pieces, outlines the shape of Africa,
symbolizing the continent that represents the ultimate expression of natural
beauty, yet at the same time, the stage for some of the most destructive human
activities against nature.
Some puzzle pieces are slowly melting, like snow in the sun, to
symbolize the gradual loss of the lion's natural habitat. The animal's innocent gesture
of playing with what is disappearing, combined with the splendor of its
golden claws, evokes a sense of preciousness and fragility.
The artwork thus becomes a powerful metaphor for human responsibility in
safeguarding an increasingly fragile natural balance, inviting the viewer to
reflect on the urgent need to act to protect what we are about to lose
forever.
