This sculpture is the fourth piece in the series dedicated to animals on the brink
of extinction due to human activities.
The gorilla is depicted in a moment of innocent play, sitting as it carefully builds
a rocking horse, entirely composed of golden bullet casings.
Piece by piece, it stacks the casings with a thoughtful air, a gesture full of
naive curiosity, unaware of the sinister symbolism they hold. What
appears to be a simple, playful action transforms into a powerful reflection on the
transformation of violence into play, an unsettling parallel to the real threats
these animals face in nature.
This surreal representation subverts expectations, transforming instruments
of destruction into elements of play. The gorilla, an icon of intelligence and primordial
power, unknowingly interacts with the very force that
threatens its survival.
The work invites the viewer to reflect on the tragic irony of this contrast,
highlighting the devastating impact of poaching and habitat destruction
on one of nature's most extraordinary beings.
The purity of the white form juxtaposed with the golden splendor of the casings emphasizes
the precious yet fragile existence of the species. This sculpture becomes a powerful
metaphor for the urgent need to rethink our role in protecting
these creatures, before their fate is sealed—not by nature, but by
human hands.
